This historic chapter of the NSDAR was founded by thirteen descendents of Betsy Griscom Ross in the Frankford section of Philadelphia, Pennaslyvania. These early members worked to restore and protect the Besty Ross house as a national monument. Since then the members have maintained a close relationship with the site and work to promote patriotism, service and education through their monthly meetings and service opportunities.
Flag House Chapter members sponsor and participate annually in Fourth of July “Let Freedom Ring” Children’s Citizenship and June 14th Flag Day ceremonies at the Betsy Ross house.
Early members worked to establish the Betsy Ross House as a national monument, furnish and maintain Betsy’s bedroom, and annually provide a silk 13-star flag to hang from its attic window.
For 125 years, the Daughters of the American Revolution has carried the torch of patriotism. Love of country was the purpose; ancestors who fought for freedom was the bond that connected women to unite to form an organization that honored heritage and worked to ensure a bright future for our children. Patriotism is the foundation of the many DAR activities that take place in local communities across the country.
Is open to women who can establish a connection to a patriot who served in the American Revolution. There are over 190,000 active members. Please read more about DAR's current membership and their commit to service projects.
